Position Overview

This position will perform control and compliance activities for the Investments & Capital Markets (I&CM) business – the first line of defense. The successful candidate will partner with business leaders in I&CM to conduct on-going risk assessments, ensure appropriate controls are implemented and complete control remediation as needed. This position requires sound judgment, persistence and well-developed organizational skills. The role will have regular interaction with I&CM personnel who are responsible for executing transactions related to mortgages, mortgage-backed securities, debt, derivatives and liquidity investments. The role will also regularly engage with I&CM personnel involved in implementing capital markets technology, developing financial models, overseeing front, middle and back office activities, as well as managing new business initiatives. The position will work closely with colleagues in i) Finance (another first line of defense), ii) Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance (second lines of defense), and iii) Internal Audit (third line of defense). The position will report to the Risk and Controls Manager for I&CM. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
 Supporting the establishment and maintenance of SOX and operational controls across all I&CM business activities
 Continuously monitoring I&CM control environment to identify control gaps, emerging risks and mitigation strategies
 Tracking, monitoring and reporting on I&CM risk and control issues
 Providing risk and controls input for I&CM new business initiatives
 Supporting management reporting as needed, including development of quarterly Business Area Risk and Control (BARC) materials

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
5+ years of audit, control, compliance or operational risk experience in the financial services industry
Demonstrated ability to assess the adequacy of internal controls in mitigating risk
Experience implementing Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and/or Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA)
Experience defining and documenting business processes and functions
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to think critically and logically
Ability to develop effective relationships across the firm
Ability to influence others

Preferred Skills

CPA, CIA or other professional certification
Public accounting or internal audit experience preferred
Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
Knowledge of secondary mortgage market and Freddie Mac’s business
Understanding of capital markets trading and/or middle and back office functions
